Spaaaaaaaa

Belgium is known for its charming towns and cities, and there are a few spa towns in the country that are popular for their wellness offerings and mineral-rich springs. One of the most well-known spa towns in Belgium is Spa itself, which is where the term “spa” originated.

Overall, Spa is a charming Belgian town that offers a perfect combination of wellness, relaxation, natural beauty, and a touch of history. It’s an ideal destination for a rejuvenating getaway.

When you take a stroll through the city center, particularly through the Avenue of Reine Astrid you will see many post WWII monuments marking the history.

The history of Spa town dates back centuries and is closely linked to the discovery and popularity of its natural mineral springs. Cliché as it may be, it is a weekend getaway.

The healing properties of Spa’s mineral springs were known to the ancient Romans, who built baths and thermal facilities in the region. They believed in the therapeutic benefits of the mineral waters for various ailments and used them for relaxation and healing. So the city turns into a place to visit. Notably because I love spa and water 🙂

We arrived early in the morning, not troubled by the crowd and had a splendid joy and bath. It take s half a day to recover and the other half a day can be given to the exploration of the city . Once done with your baths, there is a local railway that will stroll you down to the city.

Trust me, reading carefully, the city has many interesting reminders:

If you look long enough, the trace of Peter II Le Grand of Russia will appear. How come?

The Tsar regularly visited western Europe and was touring the Netherlands in 18th century (modern day Belgium was part of the Netherlands in those days) when he visited Spa. This was the same visit that a chronically hungover Peter is alleged to have vomited into a fountain in the park opposite the Royal Palace of Brussels. His visit to Spa was an attempt to cure his liver problems caused largely by legendary drinking bouts.

Whatever seems to be a problem, Peter II The Great magically healed and brought the aristocracy to Spa. 🙂
